The breed originated in the mountains of Canton of Valais from which its name derives. The Valais Blacknose sheep is classed as the cutest sheep in the World. It is documented as far back as the fifteenth century. The Valais Sheep is a mountain breed, well adapted to grazing on the stony pastures. Both male and female have horns which can be twisted, the Valais Sheep have black spots on their tails and on their legs. The Valais Blacknose sheep have to be clipped twice a year, as their wool grows long very quickly.
